Riot Games is making a significant change in its next League of Legends’ 11.21 patch by disabling the /all chat feature. This decision aims to reduce verbal abuse and toxicity among players. Starting October 20, 2021, opposing teams will no longer be able to send messages visible to players on the other side of the Rift.
Reason behind the change
Riot explained in a blog post that the /All chat function, initially meant for fun and social interactions, had evolved into a platform for negative communications like verbal abuse, racism, and discrimination. In the future, cross-team interactions will be limited to emotes and champion mastery. Full team-to-team communication will only be available post-match, while same-team communication remains unchanged.
Reaction from the gaming community
The decision to disable /All chat while keeping team chats intact surprised and puzzled many players. They believe that most negativity now resides in team chats. Riot acknowledged the toxicity in team chats but emphasized their importance in team coordination.
