After receiving a lot of criticism from fans, Epic has decided to reveal the inspiration behind Fortnite’s Impostors mode. Nearly two months after the mode's release, the company is finally ready to admit that the 10-player, limited-time addition was based on Among Us by Innersloth.
Released in mid-August, the events of the Impostors mode take place in the Fortnite universe and its 3D worlds. However, it is evident that the game draws heavily from the gameplay, map layout, mechanics of tasks, and dialogues of Among Us. Even the mode name itself hints at a connection between the two titles.
How similar are the two games?
What does Innersloth say?
Initially, Epic Games did not acknowledge the connection, leading the Innersloth team to express their dissatisfaction at their creative work being used without proper credit. Marcus Bromander, the co-founder of Innersloth, mentioned that while the mechanics of Among Us were not patented, it was surprising that Epic did not try harder to differentiate their game.
Despite briefly mentioning Innersloth in its patch notes, Epic has not included a proper reference to them in the Impostors in-game description.
