The Lens recognition feature for images has been a key focus for Google, with the company now making it easily accessible on the homepage. Users can now see the Lens button on the Google homepage search bar, a significant change as the homepage is rarely updated. Any changes will be immediately noticeable and discussed by users.
By clicking the Lens button, users can enter a URL with an image or upload a picture directly to Google, providing a similar experience to the separate Lens app. The Lens feature not only searches for similar images but also offers information about recognized objects in the pictures, such as plants.
Scanning a photo with text allows for copying and possibly translation, while scanning a QR code provides information directly on the Google page. Additionally, the Lens feature offers a link for reverse image searches to discover the source of a picture.
