Developers at Facebook revealed their plans to introduce a chat function for Instagram and Messenger communication last year. The latest update now includes the release of the Cross-App chat, offering users group indicators, new chat themes, and polls for Instagram direct messages. This update is intended to simplify communication with friends across both platforms.
With the new Cross-App group feature, users can invite people from both Instagram and Facebook. Members can join using just one social media account, eliminating the need to access the group from both platforms. Additionally, users can take advantage of platform-specific features. A distinguishing feature has been added, showing which app a person is typing from using group indicators on Instagram and Messenger.
Polls are also now accessible on Instagram, operating similarly to those found in other apps. Users can ask questions and have group members vote on their preferred option. The Watch Together feature, previously introduced in the last update, has been enhanced for Instagram. Users can now collectively view Reels and IGTV videos in a group video call, facilitating interactive discussions around shared content.
Furthermore, new chat themes, including some with AR effects like the Astrology art suite, are available for users to customize their conversations. These themes can be applied to standard chats as well as innovative Cross-App conversations, visible to all group members. Overall, these new features offer exciting possibilities.
