Nintendo continues to follow its own rules and chooses to disregard recent trends. However, the latest release has brought the Switch closer to the rest of the gaming world. The recent addition to the Nintendo Switch, released on November 11, is the official Twitch app, designed for optimal viewing. The app is free, just like on any other platform.
It seemed odd, and even scandalous, to have these two gaming industry giants so far apart, especially considering how well their names rhyme. Twitch took four years to finally make its way to the Nintendo Switch, even though it has been available on other consoles for quite some time.
According to the advertisement, users can now watch live streams of various sports – from football and basketball to esports. The app is functional in both TV and standalone mode.
However, the reality might not be as great as it appears. Firstly, the Switch app is not designed for streaming at all. Additionally, chats are not accessible while watching a stream. On a positive note, the app supports multiple logins, allowing users to watch a stream on the Nintendo Switch while using their phone or tablet for chatting simultaneously.
One of the most disappointing aspects of Twitch on the Switch is its instability. It frequently crashes, and even when it is working properly, the stream may occasionally rewind a second or two (reminiscent of The Matrix, perhaps?). Regardless, we now have Twitch on the Switch; checked off the list.
However, the situation changes when we look for other streaming apps on the Switch. With no Netflix or Disney Plus available, the only viable alternative to Twitch is the ever-present YouTube. From this perspective, the Twitch app is a welcome addition.
Are you prepared to start watching streams on the Switch, or would you rather stream content yourself? Do you find the app useful in its current state? Share your thoughts in the comments!
