In an effort to retaliate against Instagram for taking inspiration from some of its best ideas, the TikTok app has introduced a new Photo Mode for still images that closely resembles IG's feature of posting carousels of pictures for users to scroll through. TikTok describes the new photo tool as allowing users to create a slideshow of photos with soundtracks, automatically displaying one picture at a time.
The Photo Mode tool can be found at the bottom of the For You page, marked with a "+" icon. By clicking the Upload button in the bottom right corner, users can access their photo gallery, select pictures for their carousel, and proceed to the content editing page where they can choose music and effects.
While the introduction of Photo Mode may be unexpected for a social media platform known for short-form videos, it offers new possibilities for content creators and could lead to interesting trends. For instance, users may utilize this tool to share still images in a "Before and After" format.
Several enhancements have also been made to the video editing features on TikTok, providing users with more tools and options to adjust their clips. One notable change is the increase in caption length for video descriptions from 300 characters to 2,200 – a significant 730% expansion in space for self-expression and promotion!
