Surveys are both enjoyable and highly informative for app developers. Individuals download apps for a variety of reasons, depending on their personal needs and the app genre. Digital Turbine recently conducted a survey of mobile game players aged 18-64 to understand what influences users when they download apps on their smartphones.
According to the findings, over a quarter of mobile gamers download apps for their enhanced functionality compared to websites. 54% of respondents mentioned downloading apps on their phones to complete specific tasks that would otherwise be impossible. Interestingly, 37% of gamers stated that they are willing to download an app if it offers a discount or another incentive. This type of motivation is proven to be effective.
When it comes to popular app categories among gamers, the data reveals that they are inclined towards apps beyond games. For example, 82% of individuals install retail apps, and 67% use finance apps.
Regarding the most popular gaming categories, 63% of users prefer Puzzles, 52% choose Word games, and 36% opt for Strategy games.
The survey also highlights the significance of trust in increasing app installations. More than half of mobile gamers will install an app if it is developed by a reputable studio. Additionally, 65% of individuals will refrain from installing an app if it lacks reviews or has mostly negative ones.
When it comes to reasons for deleting apps, 44% of users cited boredom as the main factor. 38% also mentioned having a poor experience with the app as a reason for discontinuing its use.
